Elliott Park School and Nursery believes that online safety is an essential element of safeguarding children and adults in the digital world, when using technology such as computers, mobile phones or games consoles.
We identifythat the internet and information communication technologies are an important part of everyday life so children must be supported to be able to learn how to develop strategies to manage and respond to risk so they can be empowered to build resilience online.
We have a duty to provide the school community with quality Internet access to raise education standards, promote pupil achievement, support professional work of staff and enhance the schools management functions.
We also identifythat with this there is a clear duty to ensure that children are protected from potential harm online.
To help keep your child safe online they should:
Ask permission before using the Internet and discuss what websites they are using
Only use websites you have chosen together or a child friendly search engine
Only email people they know
Ask permission before opening an email sent by someone they don’t know
Not use their real name when using games or websites on the Internet (create a nick name)
Never give out personal information about themselves, friends or family online including home address, phone number or mobile number
Never arrange to meet someone they have ‘met’ on the Internet without talking to an adult first; always take an adult and meet in a public place
Never tell someone they don’t know, where they go to school or post any pictures of themselves in school uniform
Only use a webcam with people they know
Tell you immediately if they see anything they are unhappy with
