Fractions Fun!
Year 3 had lots of fun comparing fractions with doughnuts. They commented that this Maths lesson was their yummiest yet!

In English this week...
Year 3 & 4 have been exploring the book 'The Great Kapok Tree'. Today, they took it in turns to act out parts of the story from the perspective of some of the many creatures living in the Amazon Rainforest.

World Book Day
Mrs Evans and Year 3 had a great day celebrating the 25th anniversary of World Book Day.

This week in English, we have been learning about the teen activist Greta Thunberg. We researched Greta and made notes about the information we had discovered. We then created information fact files. Finally, we created a list of questions we would like Greta to answer if we were given the chance to interview her. We then took it in turns to step in to the 'hot seat' and answer our classmates questions from the perspective of Greta.

Exciting Science
This term, our Science topic is 'States of Matter.' Children explored how different states of matter are formed and identified the different make-up of particles in solids, liquids and gases. Children used their bodies and the breakfast cereal, cheerios, to represent the formation of these particles. The children had lots of fun and even managed to eat a few sneaky cheerios!
Elliott Park reading challenge 2022
This year is the 25th anniversary of 'World Book Day'
In celebration, we have launched a reading challenge for children to complete at home. Please see the attached document below for all details, good luck!!
Maths
We begin the term by looking at different ways we can add fractions to make a whole. We will then progress to exploring fractions on a number line and fractions of an amount. Before, moving on to comparing fractions and finding fractions of amounts. Finally, we will be ordering fractions and adding and subtracting fractions.
English
This term, we are going to start with a short unit exploring the activist Greta Thunberg. We will research Greta and create fact files based on her. We will then think about types of questions we would like to ask an activist. Children will then take it on turns to be in the ‘hot seat’ and come up with answers to their peer’s questions. We will then use the Lynne Cherry book ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ to inspire our writing. This will include persuasive writing, alternative endings, descriptive language and illustrations based on the settings within the book.
Last term in English, we looked at the story of ‘The Sword in the Stone.’ We recreated our own lessons that Walt had to learn and turned these into a comic strip.
